General description

SLAM is a Lagrangian dispersion software package that is particularly well-suited to issues relating to industrial impact and urban modelling.

SLAM enables the calculation of pollutant concentrations based on 3D wind fields pre-calculated using a CFD tool. This software has already been used at so-called ‘complex’ sites, such as the Feyzin refinery industrial site.

Physical phenomena taken into account

SLAM is based on theoretical models that enable the characteristics of such sites to be simulated:
  • Accounting for point, area and volume sources.
  • Emissions that vary over time
  • Modelling of upwind effects (ejection velocity and temperature)
  • Accounting for deposits
  • ...

Technical specifications

The SLAM software is a computational program written in the C language. It is available for various operating systems (Windows, Linux).

SLAM currently runs without a graphical user interface, using data and results files, as described in the user documentation. A graphical user interface is currently under development and will be available shortly.

SLAM is parallelised to take advantage of the multi-processor, multi-core and multi-threaded capabilities of modern computers.

Validation

The SLAM software has been validated by comparison with detailed numerical simulations, wind tunnel experiments and field experiments.

This work has been the subject of numerous scientific publications.
